Community Education Classes
Community Education Classes
STARZ Performing Arts offers many classes through local Community Education and Parks and Recreation programs. Director, Cynthia Bass started dance lessons at Southfield Parks and Rec. and strongly believes in offering Community Ed Programs to beginning and recreational dancers.
THERE ARE MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN STUDIO AND COMMUNITY CLASSES, and because we offer both options, people always ask us what the difference is between studio and community classes.
1)Studio: Our studio has floating wood marley flooring, mirrors and barres. The community ed facilities do not.
2)Price: The community classes are less expensive. Payment for the session is required in full vs. monthly payments at the studio. Payment arrangements, scholarships , family discounts can only be made through the studio.
3)Class format: Community education classes are a certain number of weeks. STARZ has a unique session format at the studio level (vs. the typical year long program at most studio’s). At STARZ we offer a Fall session: Sept-Dec; a Winter session: Jan-May; and a Summer sesion: July-Aug.
4)Attendance: Because of the lower prices at the community education, there is often less of a commitment level from the student and family, attendance in class is irregular. Because of this, curriculum is repeated. Classes are catered to beginner dancers. Curriculum at the studio has been tailored to advance your dancers to the next level and challenge them each week.
5) Recital: Lake Orion Community Ed classes do not perform in any recital. Clarkston Community Ed classes will have an informal show at the end of each session. Our studio puts on a formal recital at the end of our fall session and our winter session, at Lake Orion High School.
